As A Man Thinketh

As A Man Thinketh

Proverbs 23:7 says “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” Buddah is quoted as saying “The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” One of my favorite books of all times is the book As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. Published in 1903, the book is described by Allen (per Wikipedia) as:

“dealing with the power of thought, and particularly with the use and application of thought to happy and beautiful issues…It shows how, in his own thought-world, each man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently upon his thoughts, he may remake his life and transform his circumstances.”

The book is short enough and contains such a generous amount of wisdom that it is meant to be read and reread, marked-up and highlighted. It has opened my eyes to the reality that mindset really is everything. I challenge you to pick up a copy from Amazon today!

I recently read about a local restaurant owner who was pleading with the community to support his business.  He claimed that with the surge of new restaurants in town, his business was declining and he feared that he may go out of business.

As much as I would hate to see this happen, it reminded me that we always have to be open to change.  In fact, even at the height of our success, we need to be thinking about what we could change to make our businesses or lives better.  We can’t just rest on our laurels because yesterday’s success is irrelevant.  What matters is that you prove yourself TODAY.

In his retirement speech, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo said “You see football is a meritocracy. You aren’t handed anything. You earn everything every single day single day, over and over again. You have to prove it. That’s the way that the NFL, that’s the way that football works.”  And that’s the way life works.  You have to show up.  You have to do your best.  You have to challenge yourself.  You have to adapt or die.

Love what you do

Love what you do

My parents always encouraged me to find something I like to do and get paid to do it.  Since starting Beard Joy in 2014 I have been doing exactly that.  All the hours spent researching and developing new beard oil scents, mixing this with that, experimenting with different oils...allows me to express myself creatively.

In all honesty, owning a small business is a lot of work.  It's a lot of HARD work!  There are so many late nights and early mornings.  Sometimes there are days I travel away from family for events out of town!  But because I LOVE what I do, it doesn't seem like it's hard work.  It's amazing to see the ideas for new products go from the brainstorming stage (we here at Beard Joy affectionately call these "beardstorming sessions") all the way through to the release of a new product!

I encourage you to find something YOU love to do!
